With a murderer hunting him down, David was hiding in a cave for fear of being killed. Then the son of a murdered priest named Abiathar came to David because he had no were else to go. After Abiathar told  David what had happened to his father and the other priests something happened in David.

1 Samuel 22:23 tells us that David immediately ansewered the boy and said “Stay with me; don’t be afraid; the man who is seeking your life is seeking mine also.You will be safe with me.”

There was an instant shift in David from running for his life to the realization that he was called to be king and God was going to make that come to pass.  Putting someone else before himself caused him to revert back to the promise that was over his life. He would be king.

Our calling is illuminated and refreshed in our hearts and minds when we put others first.
